Devon & Cormwall Cocker Spaniel Club

Companion Show July 9th 2011

Held at Calverleigh Village Hall in support of St Margaret's Church, Templeton, nr Tiverton.

Part of the local heritage in the Exe Valley, founded originally by the Knights Templar in the 13th Century, the Grade II Listed Church contains a number of significant historical features including an ancient granite font, memorial tablets from the 1600's and a trio of bells cast in Exeter, one dating from the 1400's - this small, intimate church is a serene and comforting space. Inevitably the ravages of time are threatening important parts of the structure and supporters of the Church are raising funds towards the £20,000 needed to make restoration.

The Club has used the Calverleigh venue, which is within the Parish, for their events over a number of years and has chosen to support the Restoration Fund.

With good weather and great support, the day passed extremely successfully with a strong entry for our Judges, both of whom are from the counties, Gary Quest (Chenrezi - Tibetan Spaniels) the Pedigree classes and Anthony Arundel (Browdel - Manchester Terriers and Cockers) tackling the Novelty classes. Judging began at 12.30 with Best in Show (Pedigrees) going to Vanda Sheppard's American Cocker; Best Puppy went to another gundog, the Wirehaired Vizsla. There were also first time exhibitors who went home with a red rosette having thoroughly enjoyed their day.

The Catering and Raffle ladies having done a splendid job, the Club were pleased to raise sufficient funds to send a cheque for just shy of £200 toward the Church Repair fund.

I suspect this may become an annual event ......so watch this space and enjoy the photos.......
