January 2013: It is hard to believe we are already in the "teens" of this Century. Actually, the fact that we talk about "this Century" as opposed to "last Century" when last Century, we didn't even mention it - is amazing!
We closed the 2012 event calendar with the Judges drawing an excellent entry for our Championship Show, celebrating the 30 years since our Club was formed in 1982 with special Rosettes and the new Club car sticker for all 1st prize winners, and a glass of wine and cake for exhibitors and spectators, some of whom had come to see how we were getting on after all this time. We were pleased to see a number of faces from the beginning, who gave us the "thumbs up".
So begins the 31st year of our Club and the weather might be hard work but our West Country is definitely beautiful...........
Once again during these winter months it is sad to record the passing of a number of the most knowledgeable and well respected Cocker folk, including John Gillespie (Lochranza), Richmond Weir (Weirdene) and Ed Simpson (Coltrim) – the experience and wisdom of these breeders, exhibitors and judges who have given a great part of their lives to the Breed is invaluable and will be hard to replace. We will, however, all benefit from their legacy.
The Club can all be proud that we continue to thrive and are well supported by long established and also new exhibitors of our Breed. It serves well the original "raison d'etre" - to support the exhibitors and breeders down in the far south west of the country. We hope to offer encouragement and guidance to all our novice exhibitors and would welcome any suggestions as to events or seminars/work shops you would like included in the Events Calendar. The Secretary or any Committee member attending Shows in the region will be happy to discuss your suggestions.
We are holding the two Open Shows in May and November this year. We have Judges who should be well known to exhibitors and give an honest opinion of your dogs; they show both solids and parti-colours and will appreciate your support:
Louise Wilding (in May) with her own Affix of Jayzander, also connected with the Lochranza Kennel, has been making an impression with her young blue bitch Jayzander Maid By Request JW (by Sh Ch Kyna By Request) winning Best Puppy in Show at the all Breeds Birmingham Ch Show, a Reserve CC out of Puppy and Cocker Puppy of the Year. Tina Beswick (Cachel) (in November) made up her blue Charbonnel bitch last year and took a CC with her imported golden dog, Gandalf of Merrily.
Keep tabs on the Site for news of events during the years - the AGM is being held on Sunday, 3rd March, at the Culm Valley Sports Centre, Meadow Lane, Cullompton at 2.00pm. All paid up Members are welcome.
Enjoy your Cockers in 2013.
